Josie’s Home is a non-profit organization dedicated to serve the needs of, and bring together in community, senior dogs, senior citizens and aged-out foster youth (those foster youth who are over the age of 18 years) in order to bring more love and peace to our society and local San Diego community.
The goal is to not only support these three segments of our community who are overlooked, but to educate our community that all life matters regardless of age.
The question to ask ourselves is always; What does it say about us as individuals if we overlook others due to their age?

Our Story:
As a child, Katy never had a pet. Thirty-five years later, when Ramin, her husband suggested they adopt a dog from their local animal shelter, Katy got nervous.
What would it be like to have a dog? Would it take away from her time and energy? What was she supposed to do with a dog?
Enter Josie. A puppy. A mutt. She was 3 months old and had been found on the side of a road in a cardboard box along with 2 of her sisters when she was 3 weeks old.
It took just three weeks for Katy to fall head over heels in love with Josie. It was the moment Josie fell asleep for the first time on her back; her paws up in the air, her tummy exposed. So vulnerable and open and trusting. Why would this little being trust me, Katy thought? She doesn’t even know me, yet she’ll go to sleep right at my feet with her stomach exposed.
Starting that day, Katy’s world opened up. She started to see the animal kingdom very differently. Ramin had always cherished and respected the animal kingdom. Katy had finally caught up!
Next came Betty, the senior dog. Katy found a page on Facebook called, “Suzie’s Senior Dogs”. What were senior dogs all about, Katy thought? She spent a few months on that Facebook page and fell in love with all the senior dogs. You mean to tell me there are dogs that are already potty trained, mature, don’t eat my shoes, AND they are grateful for a home and love??? Who wouldn’t want to adopt a senior dog???!?!?
The day Ramin saw Betty he fell in love. She was old, had been used for breeding with big hanging teets and had no teeth left. She had been abandoned when her previous owners had finished using her for breeding. Ramin and Katy fell in love with Betty on Suzie’s Senior Dogs Facebook page.
Betty came home to join Josie and lived with Katy and Ramin for 4 precious, yet short years.
As time went on and Katy and Ramin looked around in their community, they noticed one sad and real fact: when beings age, they are often discarded or overlooked by the community.
Why was that so?
In particular, Katy and Ramin felt for three segments of our community who are overlooked due to age: senior citizens, senior dogs and aged-out foster children (those who are over 18 years of age).
Through her volunteer work, Katy had witnessed firsthand the amazing and gifted foster youth who went on to achieve amazing things in our community despite not having access to any support just because they were over 18 years old.
And as for senior citizens…Katy and Ramin immigrated from a country where the elderly are revered, not put aside when they age. The elderly have so much to give.
So if these three segments of the community were overlooked due to age, then how could they support one another?
From this question was born the non-profit, Josie’s Home.
